TO BE HONEST I WAS ALITTLE OUT OF IT FROM THE VIDEOS,BUT I DID SEE WHEN ellen came out it was funny...i guess if thats the way she was comfortable with it instead of the media blowing it out of porportion IF i were a gay actress i would have probale did it the same way as well
The episode of ellen was interesting. I never really enjoyed the ellen show; it just wasnt "my cup of tea" lol but the coming out episode was pretty endearing, you could truly seee and hear passion in her words and actions; I also beleive that it was framed quite amzingly so much so that

was it more acceptable because she did it on tv? Does it really matter that she is gay? she has or had high rating,was it because she was honest,or it doesn;t matter, because she is funny as hell?
honestly the Ellen episode wiped away the others really can;t remember the other clips..does anyone else. that kind of goes into eyewitness thing,we saw the other clips, and had comments about them at the time, but i can;t remember anything about them,and can bet no one else can either,ok Ida, maybe or Ben,but if something catches your eye, then something else more traumatic or interesting happens we forget or get informations skewed
I remember the other videos the Blacks and Jews, video,I really think at that time that area was a time bomb with a short fuse. Both sides not trying to understand the others existance. I still don't understand how two nationalities that have gone through so much, hate each other. Can you imagine the force behind unity, if both put aside the differences, and ignorance what the two groups could accomplish as a whole? Hate is a strong deadly dieseas.
For some reason the Blacks and Jews video shown in class was interesting to me becaue I did not realize that this may be a reason why one group has an issue with the other. I do think that if both groups were to pull their resources together how powerful we could be. Maybe one day we will be able to build a closer relationship with each other like we had back in the early 60's.

Crystal agree with your comments I do think hatered is a disease that is manifested by people who feel they have to behave in this way because it is the only way they know.
Ellen D video was okay. I just find it amazing that the producers had her come out on the show to up their ratings. Hell anybody that watch this show knew she was gay. Coming out is a way of expressing to yourself and everyone else that you are gay and seeking approving. I do not think anyone needs approval to be themselves. That episode was funny and a lot of people watch that and discuss it in the workplace and coffee shops the following morning.
Yeah the video about Ellen and how she "came out the closet" was funny. I think that the show wanted it to be a funny situation. I mean, I think it was cool that she came out on television. That takes guts and I think she captured everyone with her comedy. I think if she had come out on like just a talk show or another platform, I don't think people would have been so accepting. It's because of her comedy that I think she won people over. Even now, people overlook the fact that she is a lesbian and watch her show because she is so funny.
As for the video about the blacks and the jews, the way that they were fighting was terrible. The way that man was hurt was very sad and then to frame that particular picture like they did was crazy. It's just like the guy said who helped him, why didn't they show the picture of him, the black guy, helping the jewish guy. It's crazy. Framing can shape people's perception of things and situations.
I found the video about the Blacks & Jews very interesting. I began to realize just how much we do have in common. Seems ours paths have crossed many times in light of injustice and oppression.
All the show we watch was a important part to show that a social change a chane with tv shows. The Elen show was interseting it show how elen was coming out. The Jew vs Black was a great one as well. i didnt know that a riot war like that. Why cant we just get along. This video show how much we have in common with a different race.
I enjoyed all the videos we watched in class, in particular I enjoyed the one of Ellen. Only because it gave the gay community a sense of openness, and it made it alot easier for other to accept who they are. That show had a major impact on society's view of homosexual's, its shed light to many sterotypes that people had of the gay community. Time has played important role in this significant social change. During times when being gay was not even thought of, to now women who are now very successful in there lives and being good role models for those people who relate to them.
Ben I think coming out is not only a way to seek approval, because you shouldn't have to prove anything if your being yourself. I think it's the point in which you realize that the person you really are is something totally different, which is opposite of gender roles in society. It's much easy for society to judge you for being gay rather than straight.
I do feel that the producer had ellen come out on her show to up the ratings....yeah the show was funny but i still believe it got way more rating when she came out....i cant rem if it was ben or crystal that said coming out was a way of expressing yourself which is completing true in my eyses....does it really matter if she came out or not....do u believe ellen would have came out if she wasnt doing that show???
It is weird how when Ellen D came out it was sort of ok, but when Rosie O came out, and adopted kids it was tabloid material.
